Congratulations Dr. White!

Each year TSS Photography recognizes hard work and dedication of volunteers across the nation who strive to shape the future of our youth through sport leagues, schools, and other organizations throughout the year. This award is presented to top volunteers from organizations that sought to show how much they value its volunteers. Without the commitment and support of these individuals the activities that help grow our communities would not be as successful.

TSS chooses a volunteer from each state; this year for 2009, TSS Photography has chosen our Scoutmaster, Dr. John White as North Carolina’s Volunteer of the Year! On Monday, September 14th, TSS presented Dr. White with this very special award at the BSA Scout Office in Asheville. Along with this presentation, Dr. White received a $150 portrait package, a commemorative award plaque and an ice cream gift certificate to Baskin-Robbins. In addition, TSS Photography presented a $500 donation, in his name, to Boy Scout Troop 73!

We’re very proud of you Scoutmaster White!

Radio commercial for Logansport Memorial Hospital

SunSpots Productions would like to thank the boys of Troop 73 for taking part in a :60 radio commercial for Logansport Memorial Hospital in Indiana. The boys recited the pledge of allegiance as they always do, but this time, it was recorded and used in a spot to honor Dr. David Morrical, a long time Scoutmaster in Logansport, IN. Click the link above to hear the commercial produced by Jay Walton at SunSpots Productions.

Creeper Bike Trail Trip UPDATE

Hi All,

Here’s the Packing List to aid in Scout preparation for this weekend’s trip, as well as an Itinerary of events

Please remember that Scouts must pack their own gear (not parents) if the Scout is to know where his gear is on the trip.  These fine young men have all been doing so well in preparing for their events, and all you parents should be very proud of your sons.

Each boy should arrive Fri. evening fed and ready to go.  We will be providing Sat. AM breakfast, the boys will be making up lunches to take with them on  the trail for Saturday’s lunch, Sat. PM supper will be provided, as well as a Sun. AM light breakfast.

This promises to be a fantastic trip, so please thank Mr. Jon Vannice for his hard work, and preparation for this event.  If not for his efforts, it would not be happening!  THANKS JON!

Thanks!

John White

 Troop 73 Cars Wash - 9/5/09

On Saturday, Sept. 5th, the troop held it’s first car wash fund raiser – and it turned out to be a huge success! It was hard work, and the day was hot, but in the end, all the work certainly paid off. In a little over 5 hours, the boys washed vehicles of all sizes and shapes … and when all the suds cleared, the troop had earned $528 dollars! So, congratulations Troop 73 on a great accomplishment! Special thanks to Todd and the guys at Advance Auto Parts on Hendersonville Road for their support!

Creeper Bike Trail Trip, September 11-13

Video of  BSA Troop 157, who made the trip to Western Virginia to ride the Virginia Creeper Trail in 2007.

We are planning a Troop 73 Campout, September 11-13 at George Washington National Forest and a day trip down the Virginia Creeper Bike Trail, Damascus, VA.

We will depart from the parking lot at Nativity Lutheran Church at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 11th. Eat before you come as we do not plan to stop on the way. We will return to Nativity on Sunday, September 13, between 11 a.m. and noon. We will call Sunday morning to let you know our time of arrival.

Damascus is northeast of Bristol, approximately a 2½ hour drive, from Asheville. We will set-up camp Friday night and have snacks around the camp fire. Saturday morning we will go to the outfitter to get the bikes and then take a shuttle to the top of the mountain. From there, the Creeper Trail descends in a gentle grade over 17 miles to Damascus. We will be back at the campsite by mid- to late-afternoon.

It promises to be a great trip.

Cost is $45 per person. That includes all food, bike rental, trail and camp fees. If any boy would like to go on this trip, but the cost of the trip would prevent them from attending, please see Dr. White about scholarship funds that are available. We really want everyone to attend.
For planning we must know by Tuesday evening’s regular scout meeting (9/1/09) whether you will be attending. If so, you must bring the $45 to the meeting.

A packing list will be provided for all registrants next week.
