It’s Spring cleaning time. Troop 73 picks up trash along the road and hones their pioneering skills on March 10 & 11, 2012. Check out the pics!

Hi Everyone,
This Saturday, October 22, the Lutheran Church of the Nativity is having an outdoor workday, beginning at 8:30 am and ending at noon. Scouts should attend with a parent.
Any time you can donate this weekend will count for service hours for rank advancement. This project helps both the church and it helps build the Troop’s relationship with the Church. People can come and go when they want. Some people come later than 8:30 and it’s OK to leave if you have other obligations.
A 30 cubic yard dumpster for yard waste will be on hand. We’ll be helping the Church clean up the back corner of the property where yard debris from the year has been put. We’ll also be doing some early leaf gathering and general grounds clean up. The next workday will be in November (date TBD) for final leaf clean-up.
If you have them, bring blowers, rakes, clippers.

Troop 73 participated in the welcome home Color Guard for the WWII veterans aboard the second to last Honor Air flight.  Veterans were taken up to Washington, D.C. to view the War Memorial and were welcomed home by an airport full of cheers and well-wishers.  Troop 73 is planning on serving again, next Saturday evening as Color Guard for the last scheduled Honor Air flight.

Troop 73 on top of Max Patch, NC - April 9, 2011

Starting at the parking lot along Max Patch Road on Saturday morning, the troop hiked to the summit of this special area landmark and enjoyed lunch, before continuing on to set up camp at Roaring Fork Shelter along the Appalachian Trail. Apologies to Nolan, Andy, Evan, Logan & Mr. Vannice for the blurry-ness of the summit shot – but it really is them!

The troop had a backpack supper of mashed potatoes with cheese and summer sausage that night with some sorta chocolatey Oreo thing in a bag – which some drank like a shake and others shunned. The night had it’s challenges with scattered lightning, thunder and marble sized hail – but nothing more serious than a 45 second downpour.

Assistant Scoutmaster Jay Walton proclaims that while Tyvek is a fine new home construction wrap, it is NOT a suitable material for sleeping UNDER – way too crinkly.

We met many AT thru-hikers and were complimented by a few who said that Troop 73 was extremely considerate – way to go guys!

Attention Troop 73 Members and Parents:

We’re in need of adults to spend some time in the lush, cool forest of Western North Carolina! (I know “cool” doesn’t mean much now – but come June, it will.)  This year, Troop 73 will attend summer camp at Camp Daniel Boone, the week of June 26 – May 2.  If you can spend some time with the troop at summer camp, please let us know!  Thanks.

On Sunday, January 23rd – Troop 73 met at WNC Aviation at the Asheville Regional Airport to begin working on the Aviation Merit Badge. We want to thank Check Instructor, Joey Maxwell (an Eagle Scout, himself) for taking the time to meet with the boys and talk about aviation – as well as our own Mark Asaad for planning and coordinating the event … it was an awesome day! We also took a tour of the Asheville Regional Airport air traffic control tower and learned the ins and outs from scouter Dale Boyer – thanks, Dale!! Here are some pictures from our trip

On Tuesday, August 10th – Troop 73 met at SunSpots Productions to record a Public Service Announcement (PSA) to promote The Boy Scouts of America, The Daniel Boone Council and our troop. The boys had a good time learning about how radio commercials are voiced and produced, and the end result is a spot that the boys can be very proud of!
