Welcome!

The adult leadership of Daniel Boone Council, Troop 73 extend an open invitation of welcome to the families of boys age 11-18 in the South Asheville area.

Troop 73 is chartered by South Asheville Scouters Organization (SASO), a group of like-minded parents whose sons completed Webelos with Pack 73, in Arden. SASO was formed in 2006 to allow our families to continue that adventure into Boy Scouting together. Troop 73 is fortunate to be locally partnered with Lutheridge, and Church of the Nativity on Hendersonville Road. Lutheridge offers weekly meeting space during eight months of the year on a 160 acre, wooded facility, conveniently located in Arden near the junction of Hendersonville Road and Airport Road. Lutheran Church of the Nativity graciously provides meeting space to our Troop during four summer months.

As the Boy Scouts of America nears its 100th birthday, I feel it important to reflect on the organization’s relevance to today’s youth. The Boy Scouts of America was founded to provide a community program that offers effective character, citizenship, and personal fitness training for youth.  Today, the Boy Scouts of America endeavors to develop American citizens who are:

  • Physically, mentally, and emotionally fit;
  • Have a high degree of self-reliance as evidenced in such qualities as initiative, courage, and resourcefulness;
  • Have personal values based on religious concepts;
  • Have the desire and skills to help others;
  • Understand the principles of the American social, economic, and governmental systems;
  • Are knowledgeable about and take pride in their American heritage and understand our nation’s role in the world;
  • Have a keen respect for the basic rights of all people; and are prepared to participate in and give leadership to American society.
  • And certainly Scouting is fun! I like to think of it as fun with a purpose.

If you feel your son could benefit from such a program, I encourage parents to contact me to find out more about how your son and your family can be involved in the Scouting adventure. Come and join us!

Yours in Scouting,
